PRIDE FUND CELEBRATES INAUGURATION OF GOVERNOR RALPH NORTHAM

Washington, D.C., January 13, 2018 -- Washington, D.C. -- Pride Fund to End Gun Violence PAC – America’s only national LGBTQ organization solely focused on gun violence prevention – congratulates Governor Ralph Northam on his inauguration as Virginia’s 73rd governor. Pride Fund was the first national gun reform group to endorse Northam, signing onto his campaign in May 2017 during the primary process.

“We are proud to have played a critical role in Ralph Northam’s election, and are even prouder that Virginia will have another governor committed to protecting the LGBTQ community and all Virginians from senseless gun violence,” said Jason Lindsay, Executive Director of Pride Fund. “All of Pride Fund’s 21 endorsed candidates in Virginia were victorious, but Governor Northam’s victory is still the sweetest.”

As an Army veteran and a doctor, Northam knows common sense gun reforms are key for the safety of the Commonwealth. He has pledged that as governor he will continue standing up to the gun lobby.

Pride Fund endorsed Governor Northam in May of 2017 due to his long-standing support for gun reform and LGBTQ equality, and invested a variety of resources to persuade and mobilize voters to support him:

  • Made direct campaign contributions and hosted a high-profile campaign rally in July with Ralph Northam, Chris Hurst, and Pulse survivor Brandon Wolf.

  • Created a digital video ad, “Science Lesson,” fact checking Republican Virginia gubernatorial candidate Ed Gillespie’s false statements about gun laws.

  • Sent volunteers from Virginia, Washington DC, and Maryland to canvas door-to-door to get out the vote for Northam and our slate of endorsed candidates.

  • Provided volunteers from around the country to phone bank to get out the vote for our endorsed slate of candidates.
