NEW AD: PRIDE FUND REMINDS VOTERS OF THE NRA’S $75K INVESTMENT IN CARLOS CURBELO AND HIGHLIGHTS GUN REFORM CHAMPION DEBBIE MUCARSEL-POWELL IN FL-26

Video highlights how, compared to incumbent Republican Congressman Carlos Curbelo, Democratic challenger Debbie Mucarsel-Powell will draw from her personal experience with gun violence and will stand up to the gun lobby.

October 25, 2018 -- Washington, DC -- Pride Fund to End Gun Violence PAC – America’s only LGBTQ political organization solely focused on gun violence prevention – today released their most recent campaign ad titled Consistency. The ad reminds voters in Florida’s 26th congressional district how incumbent Republican Congressman Carlos Curbelo was elected to Congress with the help of over $75,000 in campaign contributions from the NRA, and in exchange, his votes in Congress have reflected the gun lobby’s dangerous agenda. Curbelo voted against expanding background checks, against keeping potential terrorists and the extremely mentally ill from purchasing guns, and against allowing federal research on gun violence, among others. His background shows that he is not the steadfast and trusted leader that is needed to reliably stand up to the gun lobby each and every time, which is what is needed with our gun violence epidemic that takes the lives of 38,000 Americans each year.

The ad then shows how Democrat Debbie Mucarsel-Powell stands apart: through her personal experience with gun violence, she is listening to the loud calls for change to our nation’s gun laws and is ready to act on this issue in Congress. After losing her father to gun violence, Debbie has been a fierce advocate for common sense gun reforms.  She is committed to closing the gun show loophole, establishing universal background checks, and ensuring that guns do not fall into the hands of dangerous people. She will be a consistent and steady voice in the fight for gun reform.

Statement from Jason Lindsay, Founder & Executive Director, Pride Fund

“Congressman Carlos Curbelo tries to portray himself as a moderate to win votes, but we know the truth. After the NRA’s $75,000 investment in his campaigns, he has voted against even the most basic gun safety bills. We remember. In Debbie Mucarsel-Powell, we have a true gun reform champion who knows from personal experience the devastation of gun violence. She won’t waver and will stand committed to passing laws to save lives,” said Lindsay.

Pride Fund is proud to release this ad and explain to voters in Florida’s 26th district that Debbie Mucarsel-Powell is clearly the candidate in this race with gun-reform on her mind and is ready to lead on the issue. She is an incredible advocate for gun violence prevention and will support policies we know will save lives, and she is also an incredible LGBTQ ally that will fight for equality and inclusiveness for all. Pride Fund could not be more excited to have her back in this election.

His positions on guns are flexible, but flexibility can’t be counted on when lives are on the line.
